My dad always used to ask us if marriage was 50/50. The first time I answered “yes.”

He went on to explain that marriage is not 50/50. Marriage is 100%. You give 100% of yourself to your spouse.

It’s so easy to get into the comparison game of I did such and such and you did such and such. I am doing everything.

I have found myself doing it recently and I have to remind myself that it actually doesn’t matter. I have to stop and ask myself the question, “am I giving 100% to my spouse?”

When you view marriage as 50/50 what starts to happen is you compare how much you are doing compared to your spouse. You have thoughts like I’m giving 75% and you only giving 25%. That’s a one way ticket to a bad marriage.

If we can stop comparing ourself to our spouse’s and simply ask the question, “Am I giving 100% to my spouse?”

If you can continue to do that you will be on the path to a healthy marriage.

Have you ever thought marriage was 50/50? Have you ever complained to your spouse that they not doing enough?
